Welcome to Prof. S. V. S. S. Narayana Raju YouTube Channel.

In today’s UGC NET Hindi lecture, we are going to study Sri Ramcharitmanas, Uttarkand, Pad 107, composed by the great saint-poet Goswami Tulsidas.

This significant passage presents a powerful episode highlighting the sacred relationship between the Guru and the disciple, the consequences of arrogance, and the importance of humility, discipline, and respect for spiritual wisdom.

In this Pad, a divine voice resounds from the temple and condemns the disciple for his ignorance, pride, and disrespect towards his compassionate Guru. Although the Guru himself remains free from anger and is full of kindness and spiritual understanding, the violation of the sacred principles of Gurum - bhakti cannot remain without consequence. The divine voice therefore declares that punishment is necessary to protect the righteous path established by the Vedas.

Tulsidas gives a serious warning that jealousy, arrogance, and hostility towards one’s Guru lead to spiritual downfall and prolonged suffering. The disciple is cursed to assume the form of a serpent and live in the hollow of a great tree. This punishment symbolically represents the degradation caused by ego, ingratitude, and misuse of knowledge.

At the same time, the episode beautifully reveals the extraordinary compassion of the true Guru. On hearing the terrible curse, the Guru does not rejoice in the punishment of his disciple. Instead, his heart is filled with sorrow and compassion. Seeing the frightened disciple, he bows before Lord Shiva with folded hands and, in a choked voice, prays for mercy.

Thus, Pad 107 conveys several important lessons: respect for the Guru, humility in learning, control of ego, gratitude, compassion, righteous conduct, and the transformative power of sincere repentance. It also reminds us that knowledge without humility may become a source of pride, whereas true education develops character, discipline, and devotion.

For UGC NET Hindi aspirants, this Pad is especially important for understanding the philosophical, ethical, devotional, and symbolic dimensions of Uttarkand, as well as Tulsidas’s concept of Guru-bhakti and moral responsibility.

Let us now study Sri Ramcharitmanas, Uttarkand, Pad 107 in detail and understand its poetic beauty, spiritual message, cultural significance, and relevance to personality development and Indian Knowledge Tradition.
