Sri Ramcharitmanas – Lanka Kand 101 Welcome once again to our sacred journey through the timeless wisdom of Sri Ramcharitmanas, the immortal masterpiece composed by Goswami Tulsidas. In today’s video, we will explore Lanka Kand, Doha 101, which presents one of the most dramatic and spiritually significant episodes of the great battle between Lord Sri Rama and Ravana. As the battle intensifies, Ravana realizes that physical strength alone cannot defeat the forces of Dharma. He therefore resorts to maya—illusion, deception, fear, and psychological warfare. Through his magical powers, terrifying beings such as ghosts, spirits, demons, fierce Yoginis, and other dreadful creatures suddenly appear on the battlefield. Some carry weapons, while others create scenes of horror and confusion. Fire seems to burn in every direction, sand begins to rain from the sky, and the Vanara and bear warriors become frightened, exhausted, and bewildered. Even mighty warriors temporarily lose consciousness. The warriors cry out: “Ha Rama! Ha Raghunatha!” Yet Ravana's deception does not end there. He creates another astonishing illusion—countless forms resembling Hanuman appear, carrying huge rocks in their hands. They surround Lord Sri Rama from all directions, raising their tails and shouting: “Strike Him! Capture Him! Do not let Him escape!” In the midst of this frightening illusion stands Lord Sri Rama—serene, fearless, majestic, and radiant. Goswami Tulsidas presents a magnificent poetic image. The beautiful dark form of Sri Rama standing among those countless raised tails appears like a lofty Tamala tree surrounded by many brilliant rainbows. The gods watching from heaven experience both wonder and concern and repeatedly proclaim: “Jai! Jai! Jai!” Then comes the decisive moment. Lord Sri Rama, the embodiment of Dharma, becomes resolute and releases a single divine arrow. Within the twinkling of an eye, the entire illusion created by Ravana disappears. The Vanaras and bears immediately regain their courage. They once again take up trees and mountains and return fearlessly to battle. This extraordinary episode carries a timeless spiritual message. Maya may create fear, confusion, and temporary darkness, but illusion can never defeat Truth. Ravana represents ego, deception, arrogance, and Adharma, while Lord Sri Rama represents truth, wisdom, courage, righteousness, self-control, and divine consciousness. The single arrow of Sri Rama may therefore also be understood symbolically as the arrow of knowledge and spiritual awareness, which destroys the darkness of ignorance and illusion. Goswami Tulsidas finally acknowledges the immeasurable greatness of Lord Rama. He says that even if Shesha, Goddess Saraswati, the Vedas, and countless poets were to describe the glory of Sri Rama for innumerable ages, they could never reach its end. With great humility, Tulsidas compares his own attempt to describe the Lord's glory to a tiny creature trying to fly in the limitless sky according to its own strength. May Lord Sri Rama remove the illusions of fear, ego, ignorance, and negativity from our minds and guide us towards Dharma, courage, wisdom, and truth.
