In this spiritually significant episode from Lanka Kand, Pad 108 of Goswami Tulsidas’s Sri Ramcharitmanas, we witness the deeply emotional preparations for the reunion of Mata Sita and Lord Shri Rama after the victory over Ravana.

Having received the joyful news of Shri Rama’s victory from Hanuman, Mata Sita expresses only one heartfelt desire—to behold once again the gentle, dark-hued form of her beloved Lord with her own eyes. Hanuman immediately returns to Shri Rama and conveys the welfare and message of Janaki.

Lord Rama then instructs Vibhishana to accompany Hanuman and respectfully bring Mata Sita before him. Vibhishana arranges for her ceremonial bath and adornment with beautiful ornaments, and a decorated palanquin is prepared for her journey. Remembering Shri Rama, the abode of love and happiness, Sita joyfully enters the palanquin.

As she approaches, countless bears and vanaras gather eagerly to see her. When the guards attempt to restrain them, Shri Rama compassionately instructs that Sita should come on foot so that all the vanaras may behold her with the reverence and affection due to a mother. Hearing these gracious words, the entire vanara army rejoices, while the gods shower flowers from the heavens.

The concluding portion introduces a profound and delicate episode. Goswami Tulsidas explains that Shri Rama, the ocean of compassion, had already entrusted the real Sita to the protection of Agni before Ravana’s abduction and now wished to reveal her before the world with Agni as witness. His outwardly stern words therefore form part of a divine purpose rather than an expression of ordinary doubt.

This Pad beautifully presents Sita’s unwavering devotion, Hanuman’s dedicated service, Rama’s compassionate leadership, the affection of the vanaras, and the deeper mystery of the divine Agni episode.

अब सोइ जतन करहु तुम्ह ताता। देखौं नयन स्याम मृदु गाता॥

तब हनुमान राम पहिं जाई। जनकसुता कै कुसल सुनाई ॥

हे तात! अब तुम वही उपाय करो जिससे मैं इन नेत्रों से प्रभु के कोमल श्याम शरीर के दर्शन करूँ। तब श्रीरामचन्द्र जी के पास जाकर हनुमान् जी ने जानकी जी का कुशल-समाचार सुनाया ॥ १ ॥

सुनि संदेसु भानुकुलभूषन। बोलि लिए जुबराज बिभीषन॥

मारुतसुत के संग सिधावहु। सादर जनकसुतहि लै आवहु।

सूर्यकुलभूषण श्रीराम जी ने सन्देश सुनकर युवराज अंगद और विभीषण को बुला लिया और कहा कि पवनपुत्र हनुमान्‌ के साथ जाओ और जानकी को आदर के साथ ले आओ ॥ २ ॥

तुरतहिं सकल गए जहँ सीता। सेवहिं सब निसिचरीं बिनीता॥

बेगि बिभीषन तिन्हहि सिखायो। तिन्ह बहु बिधि मज्जन करवायो।

वे सब तुरंत ही वहाँ गये जहाँ सीता जी थीं। सब-की-सब राक्षसियाँ नम्रतापूर्वक उनकी सेवा कर रही थीं। विभीषण जी ने शीघ्र ही उन लोगों को समझा दिया। उन्होंने बहुत प्रकार से सीता जी को स्नान कराया ॥३॥

बहु प्रकार भूषन पहिराए। सिबिका रुचिर साजि पुनि ल्याए।

ता पर हरषि चढ़ी बैदेही। सुमिरि राम सुखधाम सनेही॥

बहुत प्रकार के गहने पहनाये और फिर वे एक सुन्दर पालकी सजाकर ले आये। सीता जी प्रसन्न होकर सुख के धाम प्रियतम श्रीराम जी का स्मरण करके उस पर हर्ष के साथ चढ़ीं ॥ ४ ॥

बेतपानि रच्छक चहु पासा। चले सकल मन परम हुलासा॥

देखन भालु कीस सब आए। रच्छक कोपि निवारन धाए।

चारों ओर हाथों में छड़ी लिये रक्षक चले। सबके मनों में परम उल्लास उमंग है। रीछ-वानर सब दर्शन करने के लिये आये, तब रक्षक क्रोध करके उनको रोकने दौड़े ॥ ५ ॥

कह रघुबीर कहा मम मानहु। सीतहि सखा पयादें आनहु॥

देखहुँ कपि जननी की नाई। बिहसि कहा रघुनाथ गोसाईं ॥

श्रीरघुवीर ने कहा- हे मित्र! मेरा कहना मानो और सीता को पैदल ले आओ, जिससे वानर उसको माता की तरह देखें। गोसाईं श्रीराम जी ने हँसकर ऐसा कहा ॥ ६ ॥

सुनि प्रभु बचन भालु कपि हरषे। नभ ते सुरन्ह सुमन बहु बरषे॥ सीता प्रथम अनल महुँ राखी। प्रगट कीन्हि चह अंतर साखी॥

प्रभु के वचन सुनकर रीछ वानर हर्षित हो गये। आकाश से देवताओं ने बहुत-से फूल बरसाये। सीता जी के असली स्वरूप को पहले अग्नि में रखा था। अब भीतर के साक्षी भगवान् उनको प्रकट करना चाहते हैं ॥ ७ ॥

दो० - तेहि कारन करुनानिधि कहे कछुक दुर्बाद।

सुनत जातुधानीं सब लागीं करै बिषाद ॥108॥

इसी कारण करुणा के भण्डार श्रीराम जी ने लीला से कुछ कड़े वचन कहे, जिन्हें सुनकर सब राक्षसियाँ विषाद करने लगीं ॥
