Welcome to Prof. S. V. S. S. Narayana Raju YouTube
Channel. In today’s UGC NET Hindi lecture, we explore Sri Ramcharitmanas,
Uttarkand Pad 101 by Goswami Tulsidas, where the poet presents a profound and
critical portrayal of the moral, social, familial, political, and spiritual
decline of Kaliyuga. Through these powerful verses, Tulsidas describes a world
in which the true meaning of renunciation, family values, morality,
scholarship, governance, devotion, and social responsibility has gradually
weakened. He observes that outward appearances have begun to replace inner
purity, wealth has become a measure of social status, genuine virtue is
neglected, and hypocrisy, pride, attachment, hatred, and selfishness
increasingly dominate human behaviour. The poet also draws attention to the
deterioration of family relationships. Respect for parents becomes conditional,
harmony within families declines, and personal interests begin to overpower
affection and duty. At the level of governance, rulers are described as turning
away from Dharma and troubling their subjects instead of protecting and serving
them. Tulsidas further criticizes the distortion of religious life. External
symbols of spirituality become more important than genuine self-discipline,
while authentic knowledge and devotion lose their proper place. He presents कपट,
मान,
काम
और
मद
as
forces spreading throughout society. The concluding verses also connect moral
disorder with wider social suffering repeated famine, scarcity of food,
ecological imbalance, and human distress. Thus, Pad 101 is not merely a
description of Kaliyuga; it is also a timeless warning about what happens when
Dharma, compassion, truth, self-restraint, responsible leadership, and ethical
social values decline. From the perspective of UGC NET Hindi, this Pad is
especially important for understanding Tulsidas’s social consciousness, ethical
vision, satire on contemporary degeneration, concept of Kaliyuga, Lokmangal,
Dharma, and value-based philosophy. In this lecture, we will study the meaning,
poetic significance, social message, philosophical implications, and
examination-oriented important points of Uttarkand Pad 101 in a clear and
systematic manner. Let us now begin this insightful journey into Goswami
Tulsidas’s vision of Kaliyuga and its continuing relevance to human society.
