Welcome to Prof. S. V. S. S. Narayana Raju YouTube
Channel.
In today’s lecture, we explore Sri Ramcharitmanas,
Bal Kand, Pad 78, composed by the great poet-saint Goswami Tulsidas. This
beautiful passage presents an important episode in which the Saptarishis, the Seven
Sages, meet Goddess Parvati while she is engaged in severe penance for
attaining Lord Shiva as her husband.
When the sages see Parvati, they find her so deeply
absorbed in austerity that she appears to be the very embodiment of penance
itself. They respectfully ask her why she is undertaking such difficult
tapasya, whom she is worshipping, and what she wishes to attain.
Parvati initially feels hesitant and modest. She
says that the sages may laugh at what she considers to be her apparent
foolishness. Yet she honestly reveals the unwavering determination of her
heart: inspired by the words of Sage Narada, she has resolved to accept none
other than Lord Shiva as her husband.
Through expressions such as attempting to “raise a
wall upon water” or “fly without wings,” Parvati herself acknowledges how
impossible her aspiration may appear from an ordinary worldly perspective.
However, beneath this humility lies her extraordinary faith, devotion,
steadfastness, and complete trust in the words of her Guru.
Hearing her response, the sages smile and begin to
test the depth of her conviction. Their question about Sage Narada marks the
beginning of a profound examination of Parvati’s devotion and her unshakeable
commitment to Lord Shiva.
This Pad therefore highlights the timeless values of
Guru-bhakti, determination, spiritual discipline, humility, faith, and
steadfast love. It teaches us that genuine devotion remains firm even when the
chosen path appears difficult, uncertain, or beyond ordinary human possibility.
Through this lecture, we shall examine the literary
beauty, philosophical significance, devotional message, ethical values, and
important points useful for UGC NET Hindi examinations contained in Bal Kand,
Pad 78.
Let us now enter the spiritual and poetic world of
Goswami Tulsidas and understand how Parvati’s unwavering devotion transforms
severe penance into a powerful symbol of faith, perseverance, and divine love.
